2026 Skoll World Forum Week (Oxford, England)

Pakistan is so often overlooked during global moments, but last week was entirely different

The Friends of Pakistan Launch

The Friends of Pakistan launched by independently convening 50+ leaders of social purpose organizations working at scale in the country (non- and for-profit), alongside credible funders (individuals and institutions).

We continued to explore in discussion what is needed to fund scalable work in Pakistan:

A steady "drumbeat of opportunities," ranging from established organizations to up-and-coming talent
An accurate counter-narrative on the unique investment opportunities of innovative on-the-ground work (e.g., partnering with government, exporting models beyond our borders), as well as the hardships of working within existing systems
Take collective action to secure larger and more consistent funding for impactful work. No single set of actors can succeed alone: Whether individual philanthropists or institutional funders, Pakistanis or diaspora or non-Pakistanis, etc.

Other Notable Events

The ChildLife Foundation Wins the 2026 SkollAward for Social Innovation The $2 million award provides unrestricted support to nonprofit organizations with a proven track record of advancing transformational social change on intractable global issues. From 20+ years ChildLife joins a community of over 140 global leaders.

The World Works on WhatsApp: From Nairobi to Islamabad, how WhatsApp is transforming livelihoods [Gates Foundation and Caribou publication launch] Explores how WhatsApp has become the default livelihood platform for many low-income men and women across Pakistan.

From The Classroom to the Workforce: Building Women’s Economic Power [The Citizens Foundation, CAMFED, SOLA official conference panel] A conversation that moved beyond access to education and into what it actually enables. Education is expanding aspiration, especially for girls, but the systems they enter are not always evolving at the same pace. The full panel discussion will be available soon on YouTube.

Pakistan Collective Series

June 2026 | Skardu

Led by the Mulago Foundation and Taleemabad, the Friends of Pakistan is helping to curate a 7-day intensive workshop. 10-12 Pakistani leaders will be matched with international funders and experts for mentoring on scale strategizing, storytelling, and fund raising. This all culminates in a Demo Day. Learn more here
